I recently filled out a myspace bulletin, a lengthy survey asking a ton of questions. One question asked is, "have you ever had the same dream twice?" I had to reply "not that I remember," because you know how it is, you don't remember ALL of your dreams. But basically, no, I've never had the same dream twice. Yet oddly enough, last night at the bat cave...
I was attacked and assaulted by a little midget that I saw on an episode of Good Times ye-e-e-a-a-rs ago. I have no idea what weirdness happened up in my subconscience, to make me dream about someone I hadn't given any thought to since seeing the episode rerun in the early 80's. The kid "shanked" me, which, according to the best prison movies on late night Cinemax, is a stabbing executed in prison with a homemade knife. So I guess I was in prison, I dunno. Regardless, I suddenly was having my first reoccuring dream. I can't remember when I had the dream of when the little midget bastard first shanked me, but I'd guess that it was about a year ago.
In the first dream, he violently drove the shank into my left kidney good and deep, which drove me to the ground (I'm pretty sure my subconscience got that move from movies). I was lying on the floor mostly paralyzed and bleeding, while he just stated over and over, "Ay! You've just been shanked" and then something about "the only way to care about revolution is to be directly involved." What the holy heck does that even mean? My mind's making things up that even I don't understand. Isn't it MY brain that's conjuring all this up? Why is my brain leaving me clueless? My pint-sized attacker spoke in this boring, monotone voice, like he was informing me about the side effects of prescription medication.
In the second dream last night, he slowly crept up to me, but I somehow knew he was approaching. I was thinking to myself (in the dream), "why is this little midget getting so close to me? Something's up!" I managed to catch and grab his arm, just as he was trying to drive the shank in. AGAIN, we fell to the floor. I'm wrestling with him, focusing ever so hard on trying NOT to get shanked, and in my mind, I'm thinking a couple of thoughts: 1) This is the same little midget that shanked me in another dream! 2) Why am I fighting that midget from Good Times? Is James going to come in and save the day (cause you know James Evans was a bad ass).
As we were wrestling, the juvenile delinquent actually managed to curve his wrist just a little, and sink the shank into my arm about an inch deep. Much, MUCH better than the first dream, but as I'm wrestling with him for what seemed like forever (which is a bit embarassing, why would I have so much trouble wrestling a midget kid?) And for a little midget, he sure had some scrap in him (You don't know, you weren't there! Don't judge me!!). As I'm wresting with him, not much is spoken, except for his previous rhetoric, "Ay, you've just been shanked -blah blah blah revolution" over and over and over. Both in the dream and now, I'm puzzled at that line. Why'd he repeat it over and over? He didn't say anything about a revolution, or shanks or anything on Good Times. I woke up from the dream, frightened awake, adrenaline pumping, just thinking, "what the hell was THAT?"
This is the closest I've come to having the same dream more than once, and oh boy, would I love to hear the Jungian opinion on what it all "meant" to me. It definitely leads me to the conclusion that I never would have had the 2nd dream, if I just didn't fill out that damned bulletin! Bulletins are evil! And I'm pretty sure that midget is too ... maybe even the actor that played him. Don't say I didn't warn you!
For any Good Times fans, he was that hairy, bushy eyebrowed little person, in the episode where Michael was being bullied at school, and his lunch was being taken. To resolve things, Florida had him come over and stay at their place, and James ended up whippin' his little butt and giving him an attitude adjustment. I guess it didn't work, since he wound up serving time in Kirk's Dreamland Pennitentiary.
